Texas Chicken @ Sunway Pyramid

Lately I've seen quite a few Facebook statuses by friends regarding Texas Chicken. They all had rave reviews about it. So when I saw it today.... I so must try it

We ordered the three piece combo, Mexican burger combo and extra 3 pcs of honey butter biscuits.

The best way for me to describe the taste is by comparing with the most popular fried chicken in the country that is KFC.

Fries: Texas wins. Crinkle cut, crispy and soft in the middle. Not chewy at all, even when cooled down. We like this a lot.

Coleslaw: Texas wins. Flavour is fresher and I personally prefer not too fine slaws for better texture. And I didn't get any stubby stem parts unlike in KFC's slaws.

Whipped potato: better than current KFC but lost to old KFC because Texas's gravy is obviously made with chicken stock powder. The old KFC gravy was with renderings. But the portion is smaller than KFC.

Mexicana burger: comparable to KFC's Zinger, spicy chicken thigh cutlet in a bun. The sauce is different and Texas's version has more vegetables and the addition of nachos that didn't add much crunch to my burger. Taste wise : draw

Drinks: Texas wins--- free flow ma!!

Honey butter biscuits: I think most of us here are more familiar with scones. It's the American version of scones. Not served with jam or butter but with a dollop of sweetened margarine. Yeah, it does not taste like butter or honey to me.
But it sure is tender on the inside, crispy on the outside. Stays tender when cooled.

Fried chicken: the core dish of the restaurant........ LOST to KFC. My husband said," I've never had so much chilli sauce with fried chicken, because it's not that nice". There was no tempting aroma, it doesn't taste addictive. Neither original and spicy taste good to us, although the spicy version is better, but still not as good as KFC. The batter was somehow similar with the fried chicken we had earlier that day in Ming Tien Taman Megah. And even that was nicer because the chicken was really juicy. Texas's chicken was kind of dry not as juicy as I expected.

Somehow.. When everything else is better but the core stuff isn't as good.... We might think twice of visiting again, unless we plan to drop by for fries.

Damage this time :

Lovely! I was already wondering how would it taste like when I saw it the first time. I didn't want to end up eating Popeye's and getting disappointed. Haha. Thanks for the review, now we have no worries to actually try it.

In the U.S. we don't have Texas chicken, but we do have Church's chicken with the same logo... Are they the same? Just curious... :)
